The Energy of Ruth's Larger Works on a Modest Scale

We are excited to offer two recently acquired works by Ruth Duckworth. Both have all the fecund energy and material expressiveness of Ruth’s larger pieces contained in a modest scale. The 1981 wall plaque is only 16.25 x 16.25 x 4 inches deep but has a powerful presence. The small vessel is dated 1972, measures 6"High x 5"Wide x 4.75"Deep and is the most successful example of this inlaid form either of us has seen. The inlay sometimes cracks a little (not a disqualifier with this artist—she was in many ways the enemy of perfection) but this is seamless, elegant and the inlay and the black clay become one.
