The second edition of this great three-city art fair received even more attention than the first and, larger attendance as well. Publicity was ubiquitous and the marketing was pitch perfect. Paid admission was up twenty-five percent and the spacious convention center was jam-packed on opening night. We did excellent sales with both Diego Romero (his work is shown at left) and Christine McHorse (selling all but one of her imaginative, sensual works in micaceous clay). Both artists received excellent notices with Art Net critic Brooke Mason dubbing Romero “the Grayson Perry of the Southwest.” Adelaide Paul’s life sized mountain lion in lamb’s leather and fur with manicured nails (claws) and formal elbow-length gloves was a fair favorite as were Jeff Irwin’s remarkable animal trophies that resembled white washed wood. Our friends (Ken Johnson, Cody Sanderson, Pat Pruitt and Robin Waynee) in the SWAIA booth opposite us did great business with their jewelry and the moment when Johnson sold a $100,000 gold necklace will not soon be forgotten. The Southwest has fallen in love with this elegantly presented fair and many more collectors from other parts of the country were in attendance this time. Do join us for edition three August 3-7, 2011.
